PS3’s MAG : Developers Discuss Three Private Military Contractors

Posted on 01 July 2009

PS3 MAG details

Zipper Interactive’s upcoming FPS game called MAG (Massive Action Game), if you have never heard of it yet, it’s a 256 online player supported military FPS promises to deliver combat on an unprecedented scale, coming to PlayStation 3 later this year. To get players geared up for the game, the MAG team has been releasing weekly Dev Diaries on the official PlayStation Blog to teas and inform. Lead designer Andy Beaudom speaks this week on the three groups of private military contractors players can choose from in the game: Raven, Valor,  and S.V.E.R.

Raven PMC is described as high-tech and polished, as they sport the latest high-tech gadgetry and weapons and have a slick, semi-futuristic style to their outfits and bases. S.V.E.R is the preferred choice for madmen and psychopaths. Valor is the most traditional military group of the three, and will be the obvious choice for Modern Warfare fans.

New Patch for Call of Duty: World at War PS3 & 360

Posted on 13 June 2009

cod waw new patch

Along with the new available Map Pack 2 , Treyarch have released a new patch which not only adds support for the new content, but fixes numerous bugs and glitches too. You will notice a TU / Patch downloading for Call of Duty: World at War just before Map Pack 2 goes live on the Xbox live Marketplace and Playstation Store .

Patch v1.5 applies to both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the game and Treyarch Community Manager JD_2020 was kind enough to let us know in advance whats in store in the patch.

“This list applies to both platforms:

  • Significantly streamlined MP matchmaking.
  • Increased the number of safety checks in the MP spawn system to prevent players from spawning within the line of sight of an enemy.
  • Implemented a new stats backup system – this system creates a regular backup snapshot of player stats; if the game detects data corruption, instead of attempting to reset the player to level 1, it will notify the player that their stats have been restored to the most recent backup.
  • Addressed a rare occurrence referred to as the “dummy glitch” in MP, where players would appear to be prone in 3rd person but would have a standing view in 1st person.
  • Patched several possible MP map exploits.
  • Improved dog spawning in MP.
  • Improved AI path-finding in Nazi Zombies to prevent potential exploits.

There are several additional minor improvements included with today’s update, but this list includes the most significant items.”

Call of Duty 4 still Wins Awards !

Posted on 25 May 2009

call_of_duty_4_modern_warfare_awards

After Modern Warfare 2 has been announced months ago, and Call of Duty 5 : World at War released while ago ,  seems no one has forgotten the phenomenal CoD 4 : Modern Warefare at all,  the game has won three awards at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Game Awards March 2009, which were presented in London. The game was released in November 2007 and some people might wonder why the title was even considered for awards aimed at 2008 games !

It seems that because of the release schedule for the game and the way the British Academy for Film and Television Arts calculates the period for games to be taken into consideration, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has managed to show that it is better than most of the titles released in 2008. This gives strength to the opinion of some analysts that 2008 was not a great year for the videogaming industry.

The game picked up the Gameplay award, the Story and Character award and also won the GAME Award, which is voted upon by the public.

And it’s not done yet, UK Radio 1 listener’s voted over a four day period From Friday 22nd May to Monday 25th May 2009 for the greatest game of all time. COD4 picked up the top prize and Football Manager 2009 took silver and then Final Fantasy VII  . The full list is available here.
