After Modern Warfare 2 has been announced months ago, and Call of Duty 5 : World at War released while ago , seems no one has forgotten the phenomenal CoD 4 : Modern Warefare at all, the game has won three awards at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Game Awards March 2009, which were presented in London. The game was released in November 2007 and some people might wonder why the title was even considered for awards aimed at 2008 games !

It seems that because of the release schedule for the game and the way the British Academy for Film and Television Arts calculates the period for games to be taken into consideration, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has managed to show that it is better than most of the titles released in 2008. This gives strength to the opinion of some analysts that 2008 was not a great year for the videogaming industry.

The game picked up the Gameplay award, the Story and Character award and also won the GAME Award, which is voted upon by the public.

And it’s not done yet, UK Radio 1 listener’s voted over a four day period From Friday 22nd May to Monday 25th May 2009 for the greatest game of all time. COD4 picked up the top prize and Football Manager 2009 took silver and then Final Fantasy VII . The full list is available here.

This doesn’t really come as a surprise, we’re getting a new Call of Duty every year so this make sense, According to Treyarch senior animator David Kim Call of Duty 7 (which is rumored to be set in Vietnam) is already under development, and yes, it’s indeed coming from Treyarch. David Kim reveals the following in his LinkedIn profile:

“I am currently on my second title as a senior animator in the games industry with Activision / Treyarch on Call Of Duty 7. Previous to that I specialized as a previsualization artist for various productions.”

Of course, his use of “Call of Duty 7″ here would be a temporary placeholder name for whatever game they’re working on. Quite possibly, CoD7 could drop the whole CoD branding, just like how Infinity Ward took it out of Modern Warfare 2.

World at War senior producer Noah Heller of Treyarch stated last year, “I can’t say that there won’t ever be a WWII Call of Duty game again,” suggesting that World War 2 might be on the shelf for now–but he also raised several promising unexplored areas of WW2.

Obviously no platforms are known yet but the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are safe bets considering the franchise’s history on the platforms and recent Activision activity.

The next Call of Duty entry will come from Infinity Ward with Modern Warfare 2–originally referred to as Call of Duty 6–this fall, So as I said, Treyarch doing CoD7 is something we expected. Last year, Activision’s CEO said they were going for a “leapfrog strategy” of alternating between Treyarch and Infinity Ward for their CoD franchise. to make it more clear for you here’s how it’s been going :

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Infinity Ward

Call of Duty: World at War - Treyarch

A Call of Duty movie ? don’t we have enough war movies already ?! According to The Hollwood Reporter, it seems that Activision have set up deals for “Call of Duty: The Movie”, the movie for the very popular video game.

“[The Call of Duty movie is] being talked about for the big screen,” said one person with knowledge of the deal.

However, in an interview prior to Thursday’s quarterly earnings conference call, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick wouldn’t comment on the status of Call of Duty becoming a film. But only commented on that by saying, “We have growth and we’re making money. That’s better than others can say.” He is obviously referring to Electronic Arts, which posted a 1.08 billion dollar loss for the previous fiscal year.

Kotick added that video games, especially family-friendly titles - like Guitar Hero, which will be getting its own show - are “capturing leisure time away from TV and film.”

Another Activision Blizzard property set to become a movie is World of Warcraft. Apparently, the project is on hold and there is no known estimated date for a release. Such plans might seem like easy money to Activision Blizzard but the company should be careful about taking some of the luster of the image of franchises like Call of Duty, Modern Warfare or Guitar Hero. Gamers might be less interested in them if they go too mainstream.

I’ve never understood how so much pleasure can be had from cheating. Surely they don’t think that the fact that they have managed to exploit some glitch in the game makes them good at the game. When I play a game, the pleasure of winning is derived from my skill or strategy, not if I have some hack to ensure victory. Exceptionally lame. check out the video below .

Call of Duty 5 is in works and should be released later this year. As informed the Treyarch will be going back to World War II instead of staying put in the Modern Warfare setting Infinity Ward created for the fourth game in the series. At the time of that revelation many were upset, seeing it as a step back from the great reaction COD4 got from critics and gamers alike. Who would want to play a game based on WWII? What’s a war game without AC-130 gunships and guided anti-tank missiles? Some will find it’s boring and prefer to take futuristic weaponry over rich cultural heritage any day of the week. And others will like it, as COD2 hardcore match was the best you could get.

However, recent info suggests that Treyarch will not be stepping straight back into familiar territory with their upcoming game, and will not be yet again placing the player in a European or American setting. They will instead be taking the battle over to Japan, and will likely put players in the shoes of soldiers who took part in the Pacific Campaign of World War II. No thing announced right now of where the battles will take place, but the focus of the CoD5 story will be on their side of the world rather than in Western Europe this time round.

Anyway, Treyarch needs to make change in setting to get fans more likely interested in their new vision of CoD instead of having to continually listen to people complaining IW are not involved.
